The Axonic Waypoint 2-year MYGA paid 5.10% on $100,000+ and 4.75% on $20,000 to $99,999 (version with 10% free withdrawals from year 2), per a third-party listing checked September 24, 2026 whose 2-year rate was affirmed September 10, 2026. The contract is issued by AmFirst Insurance Company.

Updated September 24, 2026: this page previously showed 5.00% for the 2-year Waypoint with a $100,000 minimum (June 8, 2026). The listing now shows 5.10% at $100,000+ and a $20,000 minimum for the lower band.

CD vs MYGA, after tax

What $100,000 earns in 5 years: CD vs MYGA, after tax

Rates used: CD 5.00%, the top nationally available 5-year CD (Bankrate, October 14, 2026); change it to the rate you are offered. MYGA 5.95%, the best A-rated rate we track as of October 13, 2026: Delaware Life Pinnacle Plus 5-year (AM Best A-, negative outlook, 7/31/2026), $100,000 and up, effective October 6, 2026 (Delaware Life rate sheet).

CD, interest taxed every year$121,081
MYGA, tax-deferred, before tax$133,507
MYGA after paying tax on all the interest at withdrawal$126,136
Tax deferral alone adds about$674
MYGA ahead of the CD, after tax$5,055

Assumes 22% federal and 0% state income tax, no withdrawals, rates held for the whole term. MYGA interest is taxed as ordinary income when you withdraw it, not as capital gains. Gains taken before age 59 1/2 can owe a 10% IRS penalty, and cashing out early can cost a surrender charge. In an IRA both grow tax-deferred, so the edge there is the rate alone. Bank and credit union deposits are FDIC or NCUA insured up to the limits; a MYGA is backed by the issuing insurer's claims-paying ability and your state's guaranty association up to its limits, not the FDIC. How it compares

The best nationally available 2-year CDs paid about 4.35% to 4.45% APY on September 24, 2026 (DepositAccounts), taxed every year and FDIC-insured. For 5-year money, insurers rated A or better topped out around 5.50% to 6.05% on 5-year compound-interest MYGAs (public carrier rate sheets, October 14, 2026). Rates vary by state, premium and carrier.

I see a 2-year MYGA as a short rung in a ladder, or a bridge to a known date. Keep the premium with any one insurer at or below your state guaranty association limit.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Axonic Waypoint 2-year MYGA pay?

5.10% on $100,000 or more and 4.75% on $20,000 to $99,999, for the version with 10% free withdrawals from year 2. That is from a third-party rate listing whose 2-year rate was last affirmed September 10, 2026; Axonic does not post rates on its public site.

Who issues the Waypoint MYGA?

AmFirst Insurance Company. Axonic Insurance designs, distributes and services the product; its website says Waypoint is issued by AmFirst.

What terms does Waypoint come in?

2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 years, per the same listing. The 2-year version has a 9% then 8% surrender charge, a market value adjustment, and no free withdrawal in year 1.

What is the minimum premium?

$20,000 on the listing I checked. The higher rate band starts at $100,000.

Is 5.10% for 2 years better than a CD?

It is higher than the best nationally available 2-year CDs I found on September 24, 2026 (about 4.35% to 4.45% APY on DepositAccounts), and the interest is tax-deferred. The CD is FDIC-insured and easier to exit. The MYGA carries a surrender charge and an MVA.
