Short answer: Pacific Life is the largest seller of indexed universal life in the US (LIMRA 2025: $582 million of new premium) and is rated A+ by AM Best (affirmed 12/11/2025). It is unusually open about rates: it declares IUL rates as often as monthly on a public page. Its lineup covers accumulation IUL, a guaranteed UL to 121, a survivorship IUL with a lifetime no-lapse rider, and term. One documented item to know: a settlement of about $58 million over PDX IUL illustrations, approved in May 2026.

The declared-rates page is worth bookmarking if you own a Pacific Life IUL: it lets you compare this year's rates with what your annual statement shows, without waiting for the insurer to tell you.

For couples: survivorship IUL, not survivorship GUL

Pacific Life sells no survivorship GUL. Its second-to-die option is Pacific Horizon Survivorship IUL 2 with a Flexible Duration No-Lapse Guarantee Rider that can run up to the surviving insured's lifetime (Pacific Life). For an estate plan that wants a guarantee, the rider is the part that matters; the index accounts are upside on top. That is a common pattern now, because true survivorship GUL has nearly disappeared from the market. Survivorship life insurance.

Term: the year-21 illustration

Pacific Life's own PL Promise Term sample (male 45, $250,000) shows $372 a year for 20 years, then $10,210 in year 21 and $55,753 by age 80 (sample illustration). That is what "renewable" usually means after the level period. Pacific Life term converts until the earlier of the level period or age 70, and policies issued at 70 or older cannot convert (Tritium).

Underwriting

Pacific Life's PAL+ accelerated path takes ages 18 to 60 up to $3,000,000 with no exam and no doctor's statement, on all products including IUL, for standard or better classes. Its best class requires, among other things, blood pressure up to 135/85, BMI 18.5 to 30, a cholesterol ratio up to 5.5, five years tobacco-free, and no parent or sibling death before 50 from heart disease, hypertension, cancer or diabetes (Pacific Life PLF4249). What moves a health class.

The record

In Mamboleo v. Pacific Life, a class action alleging misleading PDX IUL illustrations, a settlement of about $58 million ($33 million plus up to $25 million) was approved in May 2026; Pacific Life settled without the case being decided on the merits (settlement website). Lawsuits about illustrations are one reason regulators tightened IUL illustration rules (AG 49, 49-A, 49-B). The practical lesson for any Pacific Life IUL is the same as for every carrier: read the guaranteed and midpoint columns, not just the illustrated one. Caps, floors and illustrations.
