Editorial review by a licensed agent who may earn a commission. No insurer pays for placement or grades. Hans is paid a commission by the insurer if you buy a policy through him. For life insurance, ask and he will tell you what he earns on your specific policy.

Short answer: this is the index of every life insurer Hans reviews, each with its latest AM Best financial strength rating and date, what it sells, and a link to the full review. Ratings and products change, so every line is dated. No insurer pays for placement.

Carriers covered briefly (not enough public data for a full review)

A review here needs dated, sourced facts. For these companies we found too few to grade, so they get a verified one-liner instead of a page. That is not a judgment on the company.

How to read a carrier review

Each review leads with the insurer's AM Best rating and date, then what it sells and which facts are public, then any documented record (rating actions, product exits, settlements), then who it fits. Product grades are on the Goldstein Index, dated and sourced. A low or pending grade usually means a number is not public, not that the product is bad.

Frequently asked questions

How are these life insurance companies rated?
Each review shows the AM Best financial strength rating with its date and a link to the source. Product grades come from the Goldstein Index, Hans's editorial method, and are shown on the page only.
Which life insurance companies have the highest ratings?
Among the carriers listed, MassMutual, New York Life, Northwestern Mutual and Guardian hold AM Best A++ ratings as of their most recent dated actions. Ratings change, so check the date.
Does any insurer pay to be listed?
No. No insurer pays for placement or grades. Hans may earn a commission if you buy a policy through him; ask and he will tell you what he earns.
Why do some companies only get a short note?
A full review needs dated, sourced facts. When too few are public, the company gets a verified one-line note instead of a thin page.
Is Ethos an insurance company?
No. Ethos is an agency that sells policies issued by partner insurers, so the issuing insurer's contract is what governs your coverage.
