Most term policies stop allowing conversion at the earlier of the level period or age 70. According to the April 2024 carrier compilation, Mutual of Omaha's Term Life Answers allows conversion until the earlier of the end of the 10, 15 or 20-year term or age 75; on the 30-year term, conversion is available in the first 20 years (Tritium). Five extra years matter most to people who buy term in their 50s: a 55-year-old who buys 20-year term can convert until 75 instead of 70.
Conversion means you move to permanent coverage at your original health class, without a new exam. If your health changes, that right can be worth far more than the premiums you paid. Confirm the products you can convert into, because conversion menus differ and can change. How term conversion works.

Mutual of Omaha · vs. other term life policies · Draft grades on public data. Grades are shown on the page only and are Hans's editorial view.
| Dimension (weight) | Grade | One-line take |
|---|---|---|
| Price vs peers (standard case) (30%) | Pending | Price vs peers needs Hans's standardized quote; not graded from public data |
| Conversion window and products you can convert to (25%) | A- | Convertible to age 75 on most terms, later than the common age-70 cutoff; the 30-year term converts only in its first 20 years. [1] as of Apr 2024 re-grading |
| Renewability past the level period (10%) | Pending | Renewal schedule after the level period to confirm from the CA policy form |
| Living benefits (15%) | Pending | Confirm which living-benefit riders are on the California form |
| Underwriting, incl. no-exam limits (10%) | Pending | Underwriting limits for exam vs no-exam not published on the consumer page |
| Carrier strength (10%) | A | AM Best A+, affirmed 4/2/2026. [2] as of Apr 2, 2026 re-grading |
| OVERALL | Incomplete | No overall grade yet: only 35% of the Index weight can be graded from public data (those dimensions average A-). The overall grade waits for Hans's standardized case (M45 preferred nonsmoker, $1,000,000, 20-year level term). |
On public data, Term Life Answers grades strongest on conversion window and products you can convert to, carrier strength. 4 of 6 dimensions wait for a standardized illustration, so treat this as a starting point, not a verdict. Neutral summary of the scorecard, not a personal recommendation.
Best for: People who want 10 to 30 years of coverage from an A+ rated carrier, and who want the option to convert later in life than most term allows.
Look elsewhere if: You need the lowest possible price on a large face amount and will never convert; compare at least three quotes.

Mutual of Omaha's consumer page lists two term lines: Term Life Answers and Term Life Express, both in 10 to 30-year terms, with some Express versions offering return of premium (Mutual of Omaha). Express is the simplified-issue line, meaning lighter underwriting and usually smaller face amounts. The trade-off is the one Hans explains on every no-exam page: simplified issue tends to cost more for a healthy person than full underwriting, because the carrier prices in the risk it did not measure. No-exam life insurance: accelerated vs simplified.
For a healthy buyer who can sit for an exam, Term Life Answers is usually the better first quote. For someone who needs coverage now and cannot schedule an exam, like an over-the-road driver, Express is a reasonable route. Truck drivers.

Mutual of Omaha also offers Term Life Answers as 20-year and 30-year level term with return of premium (form ICC13L117P, Mutual of Omaha). You pay more each year, and if you outlive the term and kept the policy in force to the end, eligible premiums come back. Drop it early and you get back less or nothing, so ROP only makes sense if you are sure you will keep it for the full term. How return of premium works.
Mutual of Omaha's underwriting guide describes an accelerated path with no paramed exam for ages 18 to 60 and face amounts of $100,000 to $2,000,000, available on Term Life Answers (carrier guide dated September 2025, hosted by an agency, source). Accelerated underwriting uses the same rate classes as full underwriting when you qualify, so it is not the same trade as simplified issue.
Research compilations list a terminal illness benefit on Term Life Answers, with chronic and critical illness riders available. California forms often differ from the national brochure, so confirm what is on the California policy before you count on it. Remember how these pay: most accelerated benefits are discounted based on life expectancy at the time of the claim, so "up to" is the maximum, not the check. Living benefits explained.
