How it works: most term policies let you convert to permanent coverage, without a new exam, until the earlier of the end of the level period or a set age (70 is the most common). Some end it a few years before the level period ends. Enter the numbers from your policy and the checker shows the date your window closes. Until that date, your health class is locked in.

Find your deadline

Term conversion deadline checker

Enter the details from your policy's conversion provision. Most contracts end conversion at the earlier of the end of the level period or a set age (70 is the most common). Some end it earlier.

Where to find the numbers

If you cannot find your contract, call the carrier's customer service line with your policy number and ask for the conversion expiry date in writing.

Why the date matters more than the price

After the deadline, the only way to permanent coverage is a new application, with new underwriting at your current health and age. For someone whose health has changed, the conversion right can be the difference between coverage and a decline. And after the level period, renewal premiums can jump sharply; see what happens when term life ends.

Before your deadline
  1. Ninety days out: ask the carrier for the list of eligible permanent products and a conversion illustration.
  2. Sixty days out: decide how much to convert. Part of the face is often enough.
  3. Thirty days out: sign the conversion application. Do not wait for the last week.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my term conversion deadline?
Read the conversion privilege section of your policy. Most deadlines are the earlier of the end of the level period or a set age such as 70. The carrier can confirm the exact date in writing.
Is this checker exact?
No. It estimates the date from the rules you enter. Your policy's conversion provision controls, and some carriers measure age differently or allow conversion until the next policy anniversary.
What happens after the conversion deadline?
You lose the right to move to permanent coverage without new underwriting. Any new policy requires a new application at your current age and health.
Does converting keep my health class?
The industry norm is that conversion keeps your original underwriting class with no new medical evidence. Confirm it in your contract.
